Hey guys! I’m so excited to share with you today an interview with NYT best seller author of The Bone Season, Samantha Shannon. Some quick news about the book series! There’s seven in the series planned, and the first is optioned for film. And the next book in the series is called, “Mime Order”, which comes out this October 21, 2014 from Bloomsbury!

.

.

I’ve read that you first sold your projected series at 19, and the book has been published in 21 countries, film rights have been optioned by The Imaginarium Studios, being dubbed the next JK Rowling, etc., all of these happened in a span of two or less years. I’m curious to know how you’re dealing or dealt with all of the hype with your book and all the wonderful opportunities that poured in..

.

I wrote the book at 19 and sold it when I was 20. And I think we’re on 28 countries now, which is wonderful. It’s been a great experience, as I’ve been able to meet lots of new people and travel all over the world while promoting the book. I feel very fortunate to be writing as a full-time job.

.

With so much pressure, I’m sure, from your publisher and all the readers around the world anticipating the next books in your series (because 7 is a lot of books to write), how does one Samantha Shannon relax and take a breather?

.

I really do find writing relaxing, so I don’t take all that many breathers, but when I do, I tend to read to unwind.

.

.

Last question I’m sure everyone wants to ask..what is one thing we should be anticipating for next installment in the series, “The Mime Order”? (Even just an intsie bintsy something?)

.

It’s set in London in the same year as ‘The Bone Season’ and follows Paige as she returns to the citadel’s underworld. It focuses more closely on the clairvoyant crime syndicate and her relationships with its members.

THE BONE SEASON

by Samantha Shannon

August 20, 2013, Bloomsbury USA

.

It is the year 2059. Several major world cities are under the control of a security force called Scion. Paige Mahoney works in the criminal underworld of Scion London, part of a secret cell known as the Seven Seals. The work she does is unusual: scouting for information by breaking into others’ minds. Paige is a dreamwalker, a rare kind of clairvoyant, and in this world, the voyants commit treason simply by breathing. But when Paige is captured and arrested, she encounters a power more sinister even than Scion. The voyant prison is a separate city—Oxford, erased from the map two centuries ago and now controlled by a powerful, otherworldly race. These creatures, the Rephaim, value the voyants highly—as soldiers in their army. Paige is assigned to a Rephaite keeper, Warden, who will be in charge of her care and training. He is her master. Her natural enemy. But if she wants to regain her freedom, Paige will have to learn something of his mind and his own mysterious motives. The Bone Season introduces a compelling heroine—a young woman learning to harness her powers in a world where everything has been taken from her. It also introduces an extraordinary young writer, with huge ambition and a teeming imagination. Samantha Shannon has created a bold new reality in this riveting debut.

.

The next in her series comes out this OCTOBER 21, 2014!

MIME ORDER

by Samantha Shannon

.

Paige Mahoney has escaped the brutal penal colony of Sheol I, but her problems have only just begun: many of the fugitives are still missing and she is the most wanted person in London. As Scion turns its all-seeing eye on Paige, the mime-lords and mime-queens of the city’s gangs are invited to a rare meeting of the Unnatural Assembly. Jaxon Hall and his Seven Seals prepare to take center stage, but there are bitter fault lines running through the clairvoyant community and dark secrets around every corner. Then the Rephaim begin crawling out from the shadows. But where is Warden? Paige must keep moving, from Seven Dials to Grub Street to the secret catacombs of Camden, until the fate of the underworld can be decided. Will Paige know who to trust? The hunt for the dreamwalker is on.
