At twenty-two years old, Sydney is enjoying a great life: She's in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers that Hunter is cheating on her;and she's forced to decide what her next move should be.
Soon, Sydney finds herself captivated by her mysterious and attractive neighbor, Ridge. She can't take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there's something about Sydney that Ridge can't ignore, either. They soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one.
A passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance, Maybe Somedaywill immerse readers in Sydney's tumultuous world from the very first page.
When I began reading Maybe Someday, I had no clue what I was in for. I certainly DID NOT expect for a lot of things to happen. Mainly, there being an issue where the main characters, Ridge and Sydney, are not both single at the beginning of the story. Okay well I knew Sydney wasn’t but I had no idea Ridge was.. and he was in a completely in love situation going on with his girlfriend, Maggie. That’s when I realized why the title was “Maybe Someday”. The heartbreaking situation didn’t start yet but when I knew that fact? IT already DID start for me. ALSO! MAJOR SPOILER HERE. You might want to stop if you don’t want any. BUT I was absolutely thrown off my own head when I read that Ridge was deaf. YES. AS in can’t hear anything. NOW, that’s a FIRST for me.
As usual, even if I’m not entirely comfortable with the possibility of “cheating” (There really wasn’t) to happen with the story, but with Colleen Hoover’s flawless and just enthralling writing, I cannot stop myself from reading except when my eyes practically gave up and closed off in the wee hours of the morning. But when I woke up, as soon as I was ready, I continued reading it. Dare I say, I finished it in less than a day. I think that’s one quality I like about Colleen Hoover’s writing. It’s absolutely “UNPUTDOWNABLE”. At least it is for me.
So, I continued reading and absolutely fell in love with Ridge and Sydney. How good and honest they both are. And this is not a cheating story…not really. And you know what? Maybe my 18-year old self would think lowly of something like this, maybe she’ll say if you truly love someone, you can’t possibly fall in love with someone else. But my 23-year old self would probably disagree because I’ve seen it in real life. Not for me. Gosh, I wouldn’t wish this to happen to anyone, but people it does happen, and it SUCKS. REAL BAD. I have seen it (again, not me), but I’ve seen it and it’s SUCH. A. HUGE. MESS. That’s probably one of the reasons I can somewhat relate to Ridge and Sydney. (AGAIN. NOt first hand experience. haha) Now I can say with certainty that IT can happen in real life. By “IT” I mean falling in love with more than one person. It just takes a lot of effort and loyalty, to stay in love.. or to STOP and THINK that MAYBE this situation was given to you so that you will have TIME to STOP and REEVALUATE your current relationship whether it’s the one for you. Whether you still belong to the RIGHT one, not the one that everybody thinks you should be in. I’ve never been in a serious relationship before and I pray that when I’m already in one, I will make sure it’s not just a game or a fictional figment of my imagination I wanna play at, but it’s the one that is for us, makes us grow and mature, and be real, completely and honestly, unbiasedly real with each other.
And with that, I absolutely read Maybe Someday with lots of heart aches and giddy smiles. Because with a Colleen Hoover novel, you can’t finish the book without doing any of those. And whenever a new song is composed by Ridge and Sydney, I listen to it on Griffin Peterson’s playlist on my phone.
Let’s talk about the characters. As I said, I immediately fell in love with Sydney and Ridge’s characters. Ridge, most especially. I completely admired his determination to LIVE. Even if the book is fiction, but I can’t help but FEEL appreciative of his life. I’m inspired to live my life, more appreciative of being given the ability to use all my bodily functions well and good. All my sense are intact, I can walk, use my hands. IT’s a REAL good reminder TO HAVE whenever we have our NOT CONTENTED moments. Because let’s face it, everyone does have those moments. Even the richest person in the world.
And the story. I cannot even begin to describe how OVERWHELMED and SATISFIED I am with everything that has happened. To the point that I just want to SHUT UP right now and rest my case.
And I completely do REST MY CASE. BUT NOT UNTIL I congratulate COLLEEN HOOVER and GRIFFIN PETERSON and the team behind them for a JOB WELL DONE!
NOTE: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING THE BOOK WITH THE SONGS ON HAND, so you can listen to the soundtracks as they come along. REALLY GOOD SONGS there. I am so happy. 🙂
EVERYTHING I SAID would be SUMMED up to this:
