Wherein I interviewed Colleen Hoover and Griffin Peterson… (squeaaaals!)

Posted January 1, 2014 by Jenna in author interview, Promo / 2 Comments

Yeah. so hi there! What a way to start off the year right? I should’ve posted this interview like weeks ago..But with all the holiday parties and other stuffs I was busy on, I just forgot to post this on the blog.

But worry not for it’s finally here.

You’ve probably heard of Colleen Hoover’s new book “Maybe Someday” since she announced it on the internet last November 2013. If you still haven’t then this is me reiterating that announcement.

OH. BTW, the twist here is that the book comes with a soundtrack by singer/songwriter Griffin Peterson. (who btw is the cover of her book Losing Hope.) Awesomesauce right? It’s just— http://eemoticons.net.

The banner says it all. “A novel. A soundtrack. An unforgettable experience”. I’m really sure it’ll be.

What is all the more fascinating is the soundtrack thing is not just random, but it coincides with the story. The story has some songwriting theme going on. I can feel music&lyrics-ish feels here. (and I love that movie!)

it ALL comes on MARCH 18, 2014

So, for a quick look on what Maybe Someday is all about..

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance.

At twenty-two years old, Sydney has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter’s cheating on her—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.

Sydney becomes captivated by Ridge, her mysterious neighbor. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to his playing his guitar every day out on his balcony. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…

From the author of the New York Times bestsellers Slammed, Point of Retreat, Hopeless, This Girl, and Losing HopeMaybe Someday is destined to be another bestseller and long-lasting fan favorite.

sounds great, yeah? I just wanna lay it out there too how much I love Colleen Hoover’s book covers! They all have the same theme of some sort going on in her covers. (Slammed and Point of Retreat both have new covers, btw.) Her covers justify what’s inside her books. 🙂

And before I forget, three of the singles from the soundtrack album are now available! I’m in Trouble came out last November, and Maybe Someday and Hold on to You just released today!

Okay, so now I’m leaving you guys with my interview with NYT Bestseller author Colleen Hoover, and singer/songwriter Griffin Peterson!

I made it a little different from your usual question and answer interviews…instead I them play a little game. So here it is, enjoy!

and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

interview

Hey guys! Welcome to Coffee, Books and Me!

First question for Colleen, you might have been asked this question too many times already, but anyways, what was the major point in your life that made you decide to pursue writing no matter what?

I guess it was a few months after I self-published Slammed. I’d always wanted to be a writer, but never really thought it could happen for me. I wrote and self-published Slammed for fun, not thinking it would lead to a new career for me. But once it got to the point where I was secure enough in my writing career that I was seriously considering quitting my day job, that’s when I decided to pursue writing no matter what.

For Griffin: Kind of the same question with Colleen, just that with regards to singing and composing? (What was the major point in your life that made you decide to pursue it?)

I think it was when I was around 19.  I wrote a song and produced it on my own computer and realized that 8 hours had just breezed by. If something can bring that much joy and I can make a living doing it… I’ll take that everyday please.

Fun question and answer part! Tell us the first thing that comes to your mind.

Your house is burning, what’s the first thing you’ll grab with you as you run out?

Griffin: My guitars.

Colleen: Besides my family and pets? My laptop.

M&M’s or Skittles?

Griffin: M&M’s

Colleen: M&M’s

Nutella or Speculoos Cookie Butter?

Griffin: Nutella

Colleen: Nutella

the printed word or digital (e-books)?

Griffin: ebooks

Colleen: ebooks

Facebook or Twitter?

Griffin: Twitter

Colleen: Facebook

Are you guys familiar with Kokology? I have a four-question Kokology game for you guys. I think this is a great way for your fans to know you a little more better. 🙂

let’s imagine ourselves in a desert…

1. You are riding a camel in a desert. You really feel tired and exhausted. What will you say to the camel who has been with you all throughout your journey in the desert?

Colleen: I feel bad for you. Do you want some water?

Griffin: You’re doing a great job. Get me out of here.

2. You are really thirsty. Luckily, you saw an oasis. But you are surprised to see that someone has arrived before you. Who is he/she? (A person you know).

Colleen: Heath (my husband, because he should be home with the kids)

Griffin: My grandpa, who just got a double knee replacement.

3. Finally, your destination is already in sight. How do you feel now?

Colleen: Relieved.

Griffin: Happy, for both myself and the camel. (And a little caddywampus).

4. You have to leave the camel now since you already reached your destination. Another person will now ride to the camel. Who is he/she?

Colleen: My sister, Murphy, is going to ride my camel now.

Griffin: My grandpa (he deserves a rest after the double knee replacement).

(here are the interpretations!)
The desert and camel theme symbolizes the journey toward personal independence. Specifically, this scenario reveals your feelings about parting with a lover. Your answers show how you might react when the time comes to go your separate ways.

Meaning of your answer to item #1: The words you spoke to the camel reveal what you might say to yourself when you realize love has been lost.

Meaning of your answer to item #2: The person you encountered here could be someone who has helped or comforted you in the past or one you might turn to in times of need.

Meaning of your answer to item #3: Your feelings upon reaching the town are your true feelings about finally getting over a lost love.

Meaning of your answer to item #4: The new rider is a person toward whom you feel a secret rivalry, jealousy, or resentment.
I hope you guys had fun reading my interview with Colleen and Griffin. I certainly got to know them more because of the questions and their corresponding answers. 🙂
