A young girl’s life is forever changed when she is marked by a mysterious fae boy and drawn into the fantastical and dangerous world of the Twixt in INDELIBLE, the first book in the stunningly powerful The Twixt fantasy series by Dawn Metcalf. Some things are permanent. Indelible. And they cannot be changed back. Joy Malone learns this the night she sees a stranger with all-black eyes across a crowded room—right before the mystery boy tries to cut out her eye.Instead, the wound accidentally marks her as property of Indelible Ink, and this dangerous mistake thrusts Joy into an incomprehensible world—a world of monsters at the window, glowing girls on the doorstep and a life that will never be the same. Now Joy must pretend to be Ink’s chosen one—his helper, his love, his somethingfor the foreseeable future and failure to be convincing means a painful death for them both. Swept into a world of monsters, illusion, immortal honor and revenge, Joy discovers that sometimes there are no mistakes.Metcalf’s unique style and distinct voice add layers to a complex plot and create a fascinating romance that readers will find unforgettable.INDELIBLE will be available wherever books are sold and at Harlequin.com.

My favorite scene to write was the “ear scene.” Without giving away spoilers, let’s just say that this was an intense scene, and while I may sometimes question my ability to write budding romance, a really good kiss, or anything in the “fade to black” category, I am fairly confident in my ability to write something intense.Someplace between anticipation and “Will s/he, won’t s/he?” is where I thrive.

Close your eyes. Hear that? Feel that? Smell that? It’s like all of your senses rise to compensate here in the dark, from the hairs on your arm to your inner ear to that perceptive extra sensory something like our creative minds on overdrive, rushing to search out and find the hidden clues. Add someone is there with you, someone who captivates you in normal space and now that you’re here, it’s just the two of you in a trusted dark. Close enough to feel their breath, close enough to hear the shush of their movements, to feel the whisper of the air as they move just an inch, waiting to know what happens next. We let our minds play tricks on us and dare to imagine our wish-fulfillment fantasies. After all, here behind our eyes are where dreams are born. I call these “Movie Moments”—when life imitates art because no one would ever believe these things really happen in real life. What do you do with them when you’re wide awake and your secret wish is within touching-distance, within arm’s reach, within a breath?

Yeah, like that.

I think that attraction lights the spark in any romance and the anticipation, the wonder, the want, fuels the tiny wished-for flame so by the time the question “Does s/he?” is answered, it all goes up in a giant, pyrotechnic boom.

I love that!

Look for it (and other scenes like it) in INDELIBLE: Book One of the Twixt!

(US/CAN only)

The role of Dawn Metcalf will be played by the tall brunette in the off-the-shoulder, floor-length leather straitjacket. Makeup by Clinique, buckles by Jada Pinkett Smith, hair by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.I have no good excuse for the way I write. I lived in a normal, loving suburban home, studied hard, went to college, went to graduate school, got married, had babies and settled down in northern Connecticut. Despite this wholesome lifestyle, I’ve been clearly corrupted by fairy tales, puppet visionaries, British humor and graphic novels. As a result, I write dark, quirky and sometimes humorous speculative fiction.

The book sounds so mysteriously with mistaken identity complex. An innocent bystander (Joy) being drawn into a world she shouldn’t be involved in but if a mistake happens, Joy is going to have to make the best of it. I love the plot.
