Hi Jessica, welcome to Coffee, Books and Me!
Can you tell us the story of how you started writing?
It actually started out as a joke. I would kiddingly say to my clients I know so much crazy gossip that I should write a book. One day a client said to me, ‘why don’t you?’ I went home that night and started writing and never stopped. I have know idea how those three little made such an impact, but they did. Maybe it was the person, or maybe it was just time for me to try something different, but whatever the reason I am so glad I started writing.
Is this your first published novel?
No. My first published novel is The Hairdresser Diaries. It was picked up by a small independent publishing company and published as an e-book on Amazon.
How was the writing process for you?
My first book was a little harder because it’s not a paranormal book. I had to keep reminding myself that they don’t have powers they’re regular people. I’ve found that writing just seems to come natural to me. I can sit for hours and just write. I wrote my first four books in a year. Once I get an idea in my head, I just go with it, and see where it leads. It helps sometimes to have music playing or to have the TV on. I can’t sit in silence, I need background noise.
How did you come up with The Wanderers?
I wanted to do something different. I did some research on folklores and different beliefs around the world. I took everything I learned and put my on twist on it. I came up with a list of characters, an outline, and then went with it.
What’s the most challenging thing in self-publishing?
Doing everything on your own. Finding someone to help you edit – which I didn’t have, but lucky enough to have someone taking a look at it now. Coming up with the cover. I was lucky enough to have a friend who’s a graphic artist and a mom who’s a wonderful photographer. Promoting and Marketing is another tough one. When you don’t have anyone to back you up it’s hard. It can get very costly and time consuming. You need to have dedication and determination and I definitely have that. It can get very frustrating at times when it’s you who has to do all the grunt work as well, especially if you’re like me and don’t know what you’re doing half the time. The best part about is you get to say I did all that, that was me, and that alone is rewarding enough.
Is there any real life inspiration for the characters in the book?
For The Wanderers, no, but for The Hairdresser Diaries, yes. I am a hairdresser so I wrote what I knew. Why’ll the book is fiction, there are a few incidents in there that actually happened. Hey, some of this stuff I couldn’t make up if I tried. I did get a little inspiration from my friends. Some of the characters in the book are based off their personalities.
Is writing a full-time or part-time thing?
For now part-time. I hoping some day soon I can do this full-time, but for now I’ll have to settle with writing when I can. I do have two other jobs so I have to squeeze in the time when I can. If I could write all day everyday I would be the happiest girl in the world.
In two sentences or less, tell us why we should read you’re book?
Adventure, romance, and suspense with a paranormal twist. Plus hot college boys, need I say more?

About the Author:
I live in a fantasy world and have an over active imagination. But the best part about that is I never stop creating new characters and new stories to share. I love writing and expressing myself in a way that everyone else can enjoy as well. I work in the salon most days, but when i’m not doing hair, I’m writing or reading.
