Hi guys! Welcome to my tour stop for the Murmurings blog tour, hosted by Shane from Itching for Books. For my stop, I have a special guest post from the author Carly Anne West, and she gives us 5 THINGS to look forward to in the story. 🙂 Also, don’t forget to enter the giveaway! 🙂
A teen girl starts hearing the same voices that drove her sister to commit suicide in this creepy, suspenseful novel.Everyone thinks Sophie’s sister, Nell, went crazy. After all, she heard strange voices that drove her to commit suicide. But Sophie doesn’t believe that Nell would take her own life, and she’s convinced that Nell’s doctor knows more than he’s letting on.As Sophie starts to piece together Nell’s last days, every lead ends in a web of lies. And the deeper Sophie digs, the more danger she’s in—because now she’s hearing the same haunting whispers. Sophie’s starting to think she’s going crazy too. Or worse, that maybe she’s not…
How excited am I to get to share with you five reasons to look forward to reading THE MURMURINGS? Very excited. Very excited is my answer.
#5: A World in which that Really Happens: When writing THE MURMURINGS, I played with concepts around reality and perceived reality. Who says that what you think you’re imagining isn’t actually happening? What if it’s real? Would anyone believe you?
#4: Characters – Hey, I know her! I wanted very much for readers to feel as though they knew the characters, could relate to their individual feelings, if not their specific experiences. I sincerely hope those who read THE MURMURINGS have never gone through even half of what I put these characters through. But it’s important that certain reactions, certain spontaneous feelings, look familiar. Do you know a Sophie, a Nell? Have you ever found yourself dealing with things the way they do or did?
#3: Delicious Confusion: Sophie is compelled for several reasons to get to the bottom of what really happened to her sister, Nell. Guilt, grief, terror, love – these are all powerful motivators, and Sophie isn’t spared any of these feelings in her pursuit for the truth.
#2: Loss: THE MURMURINGS explores the concept of loss on several levels. There is the obvious loss of her sister, but Sophie has a lot more at stake – a lot more to lose – and must rely on a strength she might not have otherwise found if not for the initial loss of Nell. She must face these challenges down if she has any hope of saving herself in the process. It’s also because of this loss that she maintains the hope of new growth and the possibility of some sort of redemption.
#1: Suspense Well, yes, of course I hope to frighten you. Fear has a myriad of faces, though. I explored some aspects I happen to find particularly disturbing, but you may find fear in a variety of contexts. My hope is that you are compelled to read on! Maybe you’ll think you’re fine, maybe a week or a month will go by, maybe you’ll think you see something out of the corner of your eye. Wait, was that …?
That was awesome! I especially liked the delicious confusion and suspense part! Looking forward to that! 🙂
