If I Stay (If I Stay, #1)If I Stay by Gayle Forman

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck…
A sophisticated, layered, and heartachingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make—and the ultimate choice Mia commands.

Definitely a breath of fresh air from all the YA paranormal fantasy books i’ve been reading.
If I Stay is a story of a girl who just had an accident with her family, and is faced with the decision to stay or not while recounting stories from her life. What I liked about the story is how her current situation corresponded to the specific situation she flash backed. It all fits together. The way she described her relationship with her mom, dad, brother, best friend, boyfriend, family, friends, Gran, Gramps, etc. The book holds a message, and the message is this: we really don’t know when we go or not, accidents are an open invitation everyday, like every minute of every day. I just love how the story was orchestrated. And the ending was superb! Because Mia chose to STAY, maybe unconsciously, but this makes her BRAVE. very very courageous.
thumbs up for Gayle Forman.
Now, time to read the next one!
